“While the band’s first EP, I No Longer Wish for Salvation, was one hell of a ripper, this EP takes the foundation laid down on that debut and builds a veritable fortress on top of it. The music on here is more aggressive, more complex, and more uninhibited than ever before. ... They took a formula that already kicked ass and elevated it to an even more intense and visceral listening experience. This EP supersedes the first in just about every way, and it’s kept me coming back for more.”

The Order of the Precious Blood Descend Into ‘DARK HALLUCINATIONS’ With Release of Sophomore EP

Newfoundland’s experimental hardcore outfit invites listeners into a feverish liminal space with a collection of high-impact songs that pull no punches.

With their new EP Dark Hallucinations, The Order of the Precious Blood deliver a searing follow-up to their award-winning debut, pushing even further into dangerous territory. Unfolding like a fever dream you can’t shake, Dark Hallucinations is six cuts of precision chaos—feral, unrepentant, and impossible to ignore.

Hailing from the rocky shores of Newfoundland and Labrador, the band has earned praise for their approach to heavy music, combining hardcore, thrash, groove and extreme elements with other influences from further afield in moves that disregard the confines of genre. On Dark Hallucinations, that formula becomes even more potent. The music is sharper, leaner, and more dynamic—the sound of a band refusing to stagnate.

The title track is a deviation into a richer auditory space with a warped melodic sensibility amidst the menacing songwriting that built the band’s foundation. In contrast, ‘Chain-Bone Saw’ is a raw, visceral turn—marrying jagged rhythms with haunting textures in a way that feels both unhinged and deliberate.

The band’s imagery often leans into the spiritual and the grotesque, using surreal horror motifs as a lens to explore torment born of a bleak landscape. The result is a body of work that feels both deeply personal and mythic in scope. Lyrically, Dark Hallucinations speaks to the feeling of utter hopelessness of our time, capturing a sense of collapse with uncomfortable clarity.

Throughout the EP, the band veers between muscular modern hardcore fury and dissonant textures laced with chorus-heavy guitar work. Sonically this is a confident, sure-footed evolution of their singular brand of intensity—less a refinement than a full possession.

That attention to craft is paying off. Since their cryptic beginnings in 2022, the band has earned growing industry attention—and they’re just getting started.

The follow-up to 2023’s I No Longer Wish For Salvation—which earned both an East Coast Music Award for Loud Recording of the Year and a MusicNL Award for Loud Artist of the Year—Dark Hallucinations solidifies The Order of the Precious Blood’s reputation as one of the most compelling heavy acts on Canada’s East Coast. A band as theatrical as they are abrasive, as precise as they are chaotic, they deftly maneuver between lurching dread and frenetic catharsis, offering no easy comfort — only confrontation.

Dark Hallucinations is available now on all major streaming platforms.
